Week 4 of the 2013 Gridiron Victoria season celebrates the oldest clubs in the state and some of the biggest rivalries.

Week 4 Results

Monash Warriors defeat Western Crusaders  12-3
RIVALRY BOWL Croydon Rangers defeat Berwick Miners 16-6

In a major milestone celebrating 25 years of the Berwick Miners, the club is hosting two big games featuring our four oldest teams on Saturday 25th May at Rawling Field, Sydney Pargeter Reserve.

These clubs have a combined history of more than 90 years and were established in:

• 1984 Croydon Rangers
• 1987 Monash Warriors
• 1988 Berwick Miners
• 1998 Western Crusaders

The early morning game (starting an hour later than normal at 11:30am) will be the Western Crusaders up against the Monash Warriors.

Kicking off at 3:30pm, the Miners face off against traditional rivals the Croydon Rangers for a finish under the new lights at Rawlings Field.

On Sunday we have the massive 2012 Preliminary Final rematch between the Northern Raiders and Monash Barbarians. Last years’ epic ran 4 overtimes and should be another classic showdown!

Other activities will be running on the day, including face painting, a jumping castle for the kids, a raffle and drinks available at the bar!

Charity Bowl supporting beyondblue featuring NFL running back Ricky Williams

Gridiron Victoria is proud to present the inaugural CHARITY BOWL on Sunday 9th June, proudly supporting beyondblue.

The event will feature a very special guest, Heisman trophy winner and NFL star running back Ricky Williams will attend and toss the coin prior to the match.

Contesting the first ever Charity Bowl will be the Melbourne Uni Royals and the Geelong Buccaneers. Both clubs wear blue and will battle it out for the bowl to support those who battle depression.

The event will be held at the Royals ground, Brens Oval off Macarthur Road in Parkville just behind the Melbourne Zoo.

Western Crusaders defeat Croydon Rangers 19-12
Northern Raiders defeat Gippsland Gladiators 10-0
Monash Barbarians defeat Ballarat Falcons 44-0
Geelong Buccaneers defeat Monash Warriors 19-18

Kicking off in Reservoir we have the Western Crusaders and Croydon Rangers. Crusaders looking to start the season 2-0 whilst the Rangers look to avoid a 0-3 start for the first time in their 30 year history.

Following we have the rematch of the inaugural division 2 championship with the Northern Raiders hosting the Gippsland Gladiators which should be a ripper.

On Sunday we turn to Monash University Clayton and the Monash Barbarians trying to remain undefeated up against the Ballarat Falcons.

In the afternoon it’s the 2012 TGI Friday’s VIC BOWL rematch between the champion Monash Warriors and the Geelong Buccaneers.

Regardless of the policy that is put in place we remind you that wagering on any match that your club is involved in will NOT BE tolerated. Anyone associated with a club is NOT to gamble on any match that club is participating in.

Please take this extremely seriously and get on with contesting all Gridiron Victoria matches in the true spirit of sport.

Melbourne Uni Royals, Monash Barbarians, Northern Raiders, Gippsland Gladiators, Bendigo Dragons, Ballarat Falcons

The competition will see each team play twice within their division and a total of four cross-divisional games, all for points as each division is contesting for a division title.

Gippsland Gladiators defeat Ballarat Falcons 20-0
Geelong Buccaneers defeat Croydon Rangers 34-6

Down at Endeavour Hills we kick things off with the Melbourne Uni Royals and Bendigo Dragons at 10:30am. Both teams were very competitive in their tough losses week one and will be looking to rebound. Could be the match of the round.

At 1:30pm the home town Berwick Miners are also looking to bounce back from a loss last week as they take on the Western Crusaders who play their first game in 2013.

Little further north in Croydon the Ballarat Falcons play their innaugural GV match when they take on the Gippsland Gladiators also in their first game of the year.

At 1:30pm the Croydon Rangers host the Geelong Buccaneers in what is always an incredibly close match, impossible to split over the past few years.

Monash Barbarians defeat Melbourne Uni Royals 30-8

On Saturday at The Cove off Hendy Street Corio looking forward to seeing one of our newest teams the Bendigo Dragons take on the Northern Raiders who will be desperate to get back to the Division 2 title game this year. Kicking things off in the morning the newly rebranded Geelong Buccaneers host the Berwick Miners in what is always a fierce matchup.

Sunday sees the Division 2 Championship rematch between the Melbourne Uni Royals and Monash Barbarians, preceded by the defending Vic Bowl champion Monash Warriors against the old foe Croydon Rangers in the morning game at Brens Oval Macarthur Road Parkville.
