New dedicated gridiron facility to be built

Plans for Central Facility to be built on King Island

After many years of trying to secure a dedicated central venue for Victorian Gridiron, the league is very happy to announce a commitment by the Victorian Labour Government to build a new facility by 2018.

In partnership with the Tasmanian State Government, the new purpose built Gridiron stadium will be on King Island, a short plane/helicopter ride or overnight boat journey from both Melbourne and the Apple isle.

Grandiose in scale and design, the stadium will host both Gridiron Victoria (GV) and Gridiron Tasmania (GT) matches and is expected to be the home for national tournaments. In addition both governments are looking to usurp NSW’s College Football coup in August by luring both College and even professional teams to the new arena.

It’s a big win for the code in Australia to have a dedicated facility of this magnitude Joint GV & GT statement

“It’s a big win for the code in Australia to have a dedicated facility of this magnitude with premium playing surface, grandstands and jumbo screens that would make Jerry Jones blush” reads a joint statement from GV and GT.

“We expect to be able to lure NFL and Collegiate teams downunder with the prospect of playing on the greatest American Football field in the world, in the most enviable location” it adds.

The plans are indeed overwhelmingly impressive as they look to occupy the entire King Island landscape, leaving only space for the airport, a park and a bottle shop.
