Gridiron Victoria Week 8: 23rd & 24th July

UPDATE: The match between the Bay City Buccaneers and the Gippsland Gladiators has been cancelled due to conditions in Morwell and moved to week 15 when both teams have a bye.

Week 8 of Gridiron Victoria and another round of cross-divisional matches.

On Saturday in Croydon the Western Crusaders faced the Croydon Stars, winning 36-0. In the afternoon game the Croydon Rangers defeated the Northern Raiders 60-0.

On Sunday in Berwick the Berwick Miners defeated the Melbourne Uni Royals 32-14.

The first episode of ‘GVTV’ Gridiron Victoria Television went to air Monday 11th June on Channel 31.  In case you missed it, check out our Gridiron Victoria Television section and watch the episodes online.

The program has been put together by volunteers and the league will commission another 6 episodes to run monthly through to December covering the entire 2012 Senior and Junior seasons.

VGOA official appointed to Junior World Cup

The IFAF Officiating Committee has appointed David Sinclair to the panel for this years event which will be held in Austin, Texas from June 29th to July 7th.

David was a founding member of the VGOA in 1986 and has worked more than 350 games, mainly at Referee and Umpire. He will work the Umpire position during the tournament.

David becomes the third VGOA official to be appointed to IFAF World Cups after Tony Martin (2009 Juniors – USA) and Paul Mercer (2011 Seniors – Austria) and we wish him every success.

Australian Gridiron League wrap-up

The Victorian Eagles have finished their 2012 campaign in 4th place, losing the playoff for 3rd to the Queensland Sundevils 27-14.

The Eagles lost their 2nd match of the round robin tournament 51-22 to the reigning champion NSW Wolfpack.

In the final of the inaugural AGL championship, the WA Raiders defeated NSW 42-35 to win the inaugural Australian Gridiron League Championship. The Raiders won their first National Championship in 2001.

Congratulations to all the players from across Victoria who represented their state with pride!

WA Raiders defeat GV Eagles 16 – 0

The Victorian Eagles hosted WA in the first match of the new Australian Gridiron League on Saturday 17th March at the State Hockey Centre in Parkville  (map).

In front of a big crowd and glorious sunny Melbourne skies the visitors jumped out to an early lead with a touchdown and 2 point conversion. WA continued to move the ball and scored again early in the 3rd and the scoreboard didn’t change again as they ran out 16-0 winners.
