Gridiron Victoria Week 6: 9th & 10th June

Already 1/3 of the way through the 2012 Gridiron Victoria season and another week of cross-divisional match ups in four locations across this past weekend.

The Bay City Buccaneers hosted the Northern Raiders for the first annual Skull Bowl. With a brand new perpetual trophy (the Bronze Marauder) struck for the occasion both teams battled hard and a 6-0 scoreline at halftime defied the usual gap between cross-division rivals. The Buccaneers proved too strong, winning 33-0.

The Gippsland Gladiators hosted the Berwick Miners in Morwell. Both teams battled hard and advanced to the redzone but neither could come away with points. Berwick punched it in for a touchdown just before halftime. The Miners controlled the game in the second half to win 13-0.

On Sunday the Melbourne Uni Royals hosted the Western Crusaders at Royals HQ in Parkville. The Royals battled hard all day but the Crusaders experience and size prevailed 33-26.

Also on Sunday at Ranger Field in Croydon the Croydon Stars hosted the Monash Warriors. The Stars fought hard with few fit men but the Warriors were in cruise control all day, running out winners 30-0. In the afternoon the Rangers took on the Monash Barbarians and won 52-0.

Gridiron Victoria Week 5: 2nd – 3rd June

Week 5 of the 2012 Gridiron Victoria season!

Kicking things off Saturday morning saw the Vic Bowl rematch with the Bay City Buccaneers travelling to Croydon to take on the Rangers. The Rangers flew out of the blocks early with a couple of quick touchdowns before the Buccaneers steadied with a long scoring drive and a pick-six to tie it at 14 at half time. In the second half the Buccs overpowered the Rangers, getting the win 31-21.

In the afternoon game the Croydon Stars hosted the Gippsland Gladiators. Both defenses dominated the game until the Gladiators were able to break free for a couple of touchdowns and a 14-0 win.

On Sunday at Monash University Clayton the morning game saw the Monash Barbarians hosting the Melbourne Uni Royals.  In a tough, entertaining contest the Royals took until late in the 3rd quarter to break out a big play and pull clear of a determined Barbarians outfit and win 26-14.

In the afternoon game the Monash Warriors faced the Berwick Miners. Another close match until the Warriors proved too strong and powered to an 18-0 win and remain undefeated atop the standings.
