2010 – Eagles come up short against Wolfpack
The Senior Victorian Eagles had a fantastic run at the 2010 Senior Nationals, but it just wasn’t enough as they succumbed to the superior NSW Wolfpack 28-7 at the State Netball Hockey Centre on April 16th. Backed by a home crowd of over 600 spectators, the Eagles got a momentum break early with an interception by Brendan Hackett on the Wolfpack’s opening drive, but offensive penalties and missed opportunities hurt the Eagles all night.
In their two previous games, the Eagles looked fairly unstoppable, white-washing the ACT 40-0 and piling on 33 points against Queensland before cruising to a 33-6 victory. NSW had a much tougher road to the final, beating a spirited SA team 46-0 that was somewhat closer than the score indicated, and needing a dropped touchdown catch by WA to seal a berth in their 5th straight grand final.
Even in defeat though, the Vic boys did their state proud, competing with heart, desire, and dedication. Congratulations to Head Coach Mark Fairweather and all of the other coaches and players for their efforts this year. Special thanks to all our fans and supporters who came out to support the team and sport.
