Victorian’s selected to the 2015 Australian Outback Team

Outback Training Camp

Congratulations to the seven Victorian’s selected to the 45 man Australian Outback National Squad to head to the World Championships of American Football in Canton Ohio USA in July 2015.

  • Jonathon Tostevin – Guard (Warriors)
  • Joshua Faure – Guard (Raiders)
  • Luke Jackson – Fullback (Warriors)
  • Matthew McKie – Tight End (Rangers)
  • Scott Wolfe – Strong Safety (Warriors)
  • Tyson Garnham – Slot Receiver (Crusaders)
  • Tyson Burgess – Free Safety (Rangers)

Tostevin and Garnham will represent their country for the second time whilst the other five Victorian’s make their Outback debut.

In addition the Head Coach John Leijten is also a Victorian whilst Warrior Heather Buzza joins the squad as medic & trainer.

Only two players who were on the original training camp squad failed to warrant National selection including the reigning Gridiron Victoria Overall Defensive MVP (ed: go figure) Mark Doyle and young star Taylor Berrington who will no doubt don the Green and Gold in the future.

We wish these players and our National Team well at the IFAF World Championships later this year.

Warriors star catches helicopter to Vic Bowl in Bendigo

Monash Warriors star Heath Decker had a conundrum Saturday.

He was scheduled to play Wide Receiver and Quarterback for the Warriors in the 2014 TGI Friday’s VIC BOWL on Bendigo Saturday night at 6pm.

However last Thursday night the head coach at his beloved North Ringwood Aussie Rules club called with a problem: they needed him to play fullback Saturday afternoon against the equivalent of Buddy Franklin in their Eastern Football League semi final.

Congratulations to Tom Kinloch: 300 incredible games

Tom Kinloch plays 300 games

Tom Kinloch will reached an epic milestone on Saturday 19th July against the Miners.

As he laced up his boots and took the field he reached a milestone that no one in Australia let alone Victoria has ever got close to.

300 games of American Football is a truly incredible feat as most years the season ran only 10 to 14 games which makes his record of longevity only more amazing.

Tom has represented both the Victorian Eagles and the Australian National team in multiple campaigns, served as State and National coach and lead the Croydon Rangers Juniors to multiple Junior Vic Bowls.

Tom was recognised for his achievements as a life member of Gridiron Victoria in 2012.

Congratulations Tom on this remarkable feat from everyone who plays American Football in this country.
