Victorian Women’s 2016 State Team Announced!

Congratulations to the following ladies selected for the first ever Victorian Eagles Women’s State Team to take on the ACT Monarchs on Saturday 21st May in Canberra.

Also to Cat Bouwhuis from the Croydon Rangers who has been appointed Assistant Defensive Coach by HC Matt Jenkins.

Women’s State team to take on ACT Monarchs Saturday May 21

Our women’s state team are locked in to play a match vs the ACT Monarchs on Saturday May 21st in Canberra (venue TBC).

Lead by Head Coach Matt Jenkins, our best female players will go into battle just over 3 years since the first ever Australian women’s state game between ACT and the newly formed Western Foxes.

2015 Women’s Season Awards

At a glittering event last Friday night attended by more than 100 people, Gridiron Victoria acknowledged the outstanding individual efforts this season with the 2015 Women’s League Awards.

Our thanks to Lisa Tzevakos for an outstanding effort putting the evening together; Barend van den Hoek for  amazing photos from the night (and again throughout the year) and to GV Vice President and Director of Women’s Football Mark Levin on managing an outstanding year of Women’s Football in Victoria.

Statement regarding recent media claims

Release for Press 30 December 2015

Following a recent article in the Herald Sun, dated December 29, 2015 5:55pm, by Peter Rolfe. The executive of Gridiron Victoria wish to make the following points clear, and would have done so to the reporter, if given sufficient time to respond to his email request.

In early 2015, the full committee of Gridiron Victoria, as a result of an annual review of operating rules, unanimously (with 1 abstention) voted to no longer allow female participation in their 15 year old to under 19 competition. Citing the duty of care owed by its accredited coaches to all players in the competition, and the fact that we have a viable 16 and over Women’s competition (or 15 with parents, club coaches, state director of coaching and executive clearance).
