Win for our first ever Women’s State Team!

Victorian Eagles Womens Team

Our inaugural Victorian Eagles Women’s team travelled to the nation’s capital to take on a hybrid ACT/NSW team in our first interstate clash!

Led by Head Coach Matt Jenkins of the Northern Lady Raiders and boasting a squad of 40, the Eagles headed into town eager to put on a show beamed live via Facebook.

Geelong Buccaneers gun wideout  Tameka Beeston struck first early with a touchdown reception and the Eagles Women had their first ever points, up 8-0.

ACT would strike back to close the gap to 2, 8-6 Eagles midway through the 1st before Beeston scored once again via a touchdown pass from quarterback SPC to make the lead 16-6.

However the Eagles found themselves behind in quick fashion with back to back pick-6’s as suddenly it was 18 all. Barely a few minutes later another pick 6 thrown by the Eagles saw them trailing ACT 18-24 late 2nd.

The Eagles needed to find a rhythm and turned to their run game where they scored their 3rd touchdown of the game by Croydon Rangers back Tanya Russell late in the 2nd to tie the game at 24-24 at the main change.

Croydon Rangers Running Back Kelly Dauria scored the next touchdown for Victoria and added the 2pt conversion which broke the dead lock giving the Eagles an 8pt lead in the 3rd 32-24.

The final TD of the match was delivered by Esera Shirlz of the Northern Lady Raiders by stripping the ball from the ACT QB & running some 40 yards to the house which iced the match 38-24.

A great reward for the Eagles Defense by only giving up one TD all game and shutting out the ACT Offense in the 2nd half!

Final 38-24 victory to the Victorian Eagles

Thanks to GV VP Mark Levin for putting the event together and the entire coaching staff and supporters who made the trek north and cheered it along live on Facebook.
