2012 Gridiron Australia National Championships

The Victorian Eagles have begun preparation for the 2012 Gridiron Australia National Championships in March/April.

This years tournament will be played in a round robin format, with the 6 states split into 2 conferences and within those conferences, each team hosts one game and travels for the other.

The schedule is as follows:

Conference 1: New South Wales, Queensland, ACT
Conference 2: Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia

Saturday March 17thWA @ Victoria, ACT @ NSW
Saturday March 24th – QLD @ ACT, SA @ WA
Saturday March 31st – Victoria @ SA, NSW @ QLD

Saturday April 14th Finals
No. 2 @ No. 1, No. 4 @ No. 3, No. 6 @ No. 5

Victorian punter Brad Wing to play for the national championship

Brad Wing, a punter from Victoria and son of former Berwick Miners player David will take to the field in the BCS Championship Game on Tuesday 10th January AEST for the LSU Tigers to take on fellow Aussie, Queenslander DE Jesse Williams and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Wing, a former Aussie Rules player cut from the Sandringham Dragons has taken College football by storm, recording an average punt of 44.1 yards and booming a 73 yarder against Alabama when they met earlier this year. Amazingly from his 50 punts all year, LSU has given up only 6 return yards (no misprint, that’s six yards).

2011 Junior League Awards

The 2011 Junior Gridiron Victoria Awards were announced at the Junior Vic Bowl.

2012 State Team Info Session & Combine

Gridiron Victoria will be conducting an “Open Try Out” Day for the Eagles State team to compete in the 2012 Australia National Championships.

The session will provide information about the 2012 Nationals and what is required to participate.

UPDATE: The session has been moved to Saturday, 17th December

Players need only attend 1 of the 2 venues.

Please Note:
All players are to complete a Pre-Registration form and either email it to Garry Wilson or bring it along completed on the 17th.

This is an open event, any registered Gridiron Victoria player in 2011 is eligible to attend and make the team. Be prepared to work hard and give your best shot at becoming an Eagle.

Adam Gotsis selected to World Team

Congratulations to the Monash Warriors’ Adam Gotsis, part of the first 12 players selected to the World Team to take on the USA.

The International Federation of American Football has announced the first 12 players named to the IFAF World Team roster that will face Team USA in USA Football’s International Bowl on Wednesday, February 1 in Austin, Texas.

The state capital will host the third annual game – formerly known as USA vs. The World – when an IFAF World Team of teenage football players led by Canadian head coach GREG MARSHALL takes on American’s Under-19 National Team, composed of current high school seniors (class of 2012). Both teams will field a 50-player roster for the game at The Palace Round Rock ISD Stadium in Austin.

Gotsis played for Australian Junior Outback Team and played on the 2011 IFAF Development team. He also represented Australia at the 2011 IFAF Senior World Championship in Austria.
