New Director of Junior Football

Gridiron Victoria Chair Daniel Noonan has welcomed the appointment of Andy Nillson to the role of Director of Junior Programs, saying he will bring fresh approaches that will further improve sporting outcomes

Andy has over 25 years experience in Production Management and holds a Degree in Political Science and Masters in Public Affairs. His experience in both his professional and sporting life will be an invaluable addition to the board.

The Gridiron Victoria Board now comprises:

Directors Join Board

Gridiron Victoria Chair Peter Steve has welcomed the appointment of three new Directors to the Gridiron Victoria Board, saying they will bring fresh approaches that will further improve sporting outcomes.

Gridiron Victoria’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointments of Sabine Wagner, Sarah-Jane Mills and Paige Farrell as Directors effective 20 June 2019.

“These three new appointees are highly accomplished and respected Victorians across a range of fields and we are fortunate that progressing our sport is a passion they all share,” Peter said.
“I have every confidence their valuable perspectives and experience will benefit the Gridiron Victoria Board and, in turn, our sport.”

Sarah-Jane is a player within GV’s Womens Competition, and plays for the Croydon Rangers. She will be responsible for GV’s Emerging Programs portfolio. Mills is a qualified lawyer, with a strong background in corporate affairs, senior stakeholder engagement, strategy, organisational change and project management. Mills is currently Project Manager at Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Australia, with extensive experience in continuous improvement and strategic initiatives, has also seen her succeed in developing change within highly political, multimillion-dollar projects.

Paige is a player within GV’s Womens Competition, and plays for the Western Crusaders. She will be working directly as a Technical Director – Womens Football. Farrell’s passion for Gridiron began as a player in the inaugural season of GV’s women’s competition. Being passionate about creating initiatives that generate interest, increasing participation and achieving physical and social health outcomes through sport. Paige is completing a Masters of Sport Business & Integrity and is currently Project Manager & Product Specialist at InteractSport.

Sabine is a passionate advocate for gridiron and women in sport. An experienced player, coach and committee member, she has participated in gridiron both locally and internationally, specifically in Germany, representing Stuttgart and Crailsheim and the German national team. Wagner is currently Head of Product and Marketing for Mercedes-Benz Vans, and is committed to growing the women’s game at a regional, national and international level. Her combined experience in sport and business will be used to guide the direction and growth of the women’s division of Gridiron Victoria, and to create a sustainable future for women’s gridiron. Wagner will be working directly as a Technical Director – Womens Football

Sarah-Jane, Paige & Sabine bring strategic, operational and governance experience to the Board. All with valuable experience in business and sport in general.

Mr Steve said: “The appointments will strengthen the commercial capability of the organisation and have been made at an exciting time for the sport.”

Director – Member Development

Gridiron Victoria are looking to appoint a Director for Member Development (Appointed – Non-Executive Director)

As a Gridiron Victoria board member, the Member Development Director is responsible for providing support to individual clubs in the areas of governance, funding applications and operational excellence.

Performance Activities:
– Provide transparency, openness and accountability for GV operations and initiatives
– Develop and maintain in conjunction with admin officer a club contact list
– Work with clubs on ongoing review of policies and procedures
– Ensure clubs and state bodies are moving towards Sports Australia best practice
– Develop action plans to address any gaps in club policies and procedures
– Investigate and communicate funding opportunities for clubs at a local, state, and national level
– Develop a club information pack for new and existing clubs outlining Sports Australia best practice and other tools and information that will assist them in running their club
– Provide an opportunity for clubs to communicate directly with GV
– Report monthly to the board on any club support issues

It is a requirement that all interested parties hold or at least, can successfully attain the Victorian Working with Children Check. This role is a voluntary position although all reasonable “out of pocket” pre-approved expenses will be reimbursed.

The role involves attending board meetings (nine per year) in person at an appointed office in Melbourne CBD or via teleconference. The time commitment for meetings would be on average two hours per month and more for ongoing planning and delivery for your assigned portfolio.

GV WELCOMES TWO NEW BOARD DIRECTORS

At Gridiron Victoria’s 35th Annual General Meeting on 21st January 2019, Chairman Peter Steve announced the election of Casey Marin and Courtney Farley as directors to the Board of Gridiron Victoria.

Each new Director brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from various avenues of the sports industry and are both passionate about advancing Gridiron in Victoria.

The two new Directors join Richard Garraway, Matthew Jenkins and Daniel Noonan.

Casey Marin

Casey is the President for the Ballarat Falcons and comes to the Board with a wealth of knowledge and experience within the legal profession. She has spent the past 7 years focussing on family & property law and previously held a position with the Ballarat Agricultural Society. Her focus for the sport is for it to grow and GV to be a powerhouse of Gridiron in this nation. In order for that to happen, it needs people who have fresh ideas, who are open to change and re-branding for the overall wellbeing of the sport.

Courtney Farley

Courtney is a member of the Melbourne University Gridiron Club and has been so, since 2011 where she commenced as a player and team medical officer. Outside of football, she is a Registered Nurse, and her work with Project Underdog Rescue Inc. a Melbourne-based animal rescue charity) since April 2015 as a Committee Member and Fundraising and Volunteer Co-ordinator. Her roles have required development of an excellent level of verbal and written communication, leadership, organisational and time management skills.

Casey and Courtney bring strategic, operational and governance experience to the Board. I would like to thank everyone for their nominations this year.
