Playoff scenarios heading to the penultimate round

gladiators vs silverbacks

The penultimate round of the 2014 senior season is MASSIVE with playoff implications across the league.

Division one playoffs are structured whereby the top seed in each conference has the first weekend off, whilst 2nd plays 3rd. The winners of those matches then face the rested top seed in the conference championship with the winners heading to the 2014 TGI Friday’s Vic Bowl XXX.

Division two playoffs are simple: 1st plays 2nd based on the home and away standings at seasons end.

For a rundown on each match and the playoff implications, keep reading…

Bendigo Dragons vs Berwick Miners @ Bendigo Saturday night

The Miners make the trek up to Bendigo to take on the Dragons with the final playoff spot in Conference A up for grabs. The Dragons have the edge by one game and a win for the home side will secure the 3rd and final playoff spot and a win or go home playoff against the Warriors or Rangers.

Gippsland Gladiators vs Pakenham Silverbacks @ Morwell Saturday afternoon

It’s do or die for Pakenham who have impressed in only their first season. A Gippsland win will eliminate the Silverbacks from the playoffs and set the scene for a Division Two Championship between the Gladiators and the Ballarat Falcons, two teams who only last week fought out a draw. Pakenham will need the win this weekend and follow it up by defeating the Falcons to sneak into the championship decider.

Monash Barbarians vs South Eastern Predators @ Monash Sunday morning

Big clash between these two sides who fought out a tough draw 6-6 back in week 4. They have been locked together all season separated only by a whisker and this match (if it’s not a draw!) will all but decide who takes the final Conference B playoff spot. Should be a ripper!

Monash Warriors vs Croydon Rangers @ Monash Sunday afternoon

Also in Conference A, the Warriors host the Rangers with only one game separating these old foes. A Monash victory will sew up top spot and the prized week off whilst the Rangers would need a win by more than 14 points to avoid that first round playoff.

Geelong Buccaneers vs Western Crusaders Sunday morning @ Reservoir

In this potential playoff preview between the top seeded Buccaneers and the fast finishing Crusaders, expect a great clash as both teams size each other up ahead of what could be the Conference B championship preview.

Good luck to all teams!
